In candle magic there are three magical principles at work. Concentration; visualization and will power. The candles you use should be unused and pure. Vibrations in candles that have already been used for a different purpose can and will distort the effectiveness of your spell. It may. in fact, cause harm to the spell work undertaken. Size and shape of the candle are not important. Though a higher quality candle has the color running completely throughout. Beeswax candles are fabulous to use as they are completely natural. The important aspect of the use of candles is the burning, however, so be certain that the wick is a good one. Large candles are not neccessary, basically because it is unwise to leave them burning unattended, and they are not necessary to the successfulness of your working, unless you have a particular time span you are needing to cover with your work. Color should be taken into consideration when choosing your candle for your work as well.

I love working with candles, it is my favorite tool when doing spell work or in meditation for a focus. They are great for just lighting and watching too, i drive the hubby nuts with candles all around the house, though he appreciates them when the power is out.

I hear ya there. Candles are one of my favorite things too. This past winter was a partiularly brutal one in my area, and at one point we were without power here for 6 days. My husband, helpful soul that he is, made me about 40 new candles to replace all those I had to scrounge from my supply. He's so handy... hehehe

oooo my husband has just gotten more helpful. He wasn't so sure what to think when he first moved in a couple years ago, but he totally gets that it is very important to me. I happened to mention that I was needing to find a particular oil for one of my potions, and the next thing I know he's on the net looking for the best place to order from. hehehe.

Candle Magic « Thread started on: May 16th, 2003, 7:40pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As history shows us, as soon as mankind recognized the power of fire, we had to control it. The same principal applies to the use of Candle Magic. It is a simple technique, but very effective used alone, or in synergy with other techniques such as color/crystal/knot and many others. Use candles to symbolize yourself and your beliefs. This will give you access to a power beyond yourself. Use them as focal points and representations.

just a tip 4 any1 who is pyrophobic like me or xan't use candles 4 some reason. try filling a small glass w/ water and dye it the proper color w/ food coloring and allow light 2 shine through. 4 spells requiring the candle 2 burn out, i simply let the water evaporate from a small dish or dip a piece of cloth or paper in and let it dry. not the same dramatic effect of a candle, but it's useful if u can't get ur hands on the proper candles or can't burn them if u don't want others 2 kno what u're doing or if fire freaks u out like me!

That is a most excellent suggestion! And a wonderful adaptation! I'll be sure to pass that along to others! Thanks so much

One could use a flashlight with colored plastic over it. Just make sure that the plastic doesn't overheat or something like that. Because that could be bad.

...because if you are someone with or live with someone who has breathing problems (ie. asthma), they don't have to breathe the smoke.
i know someone who's family was so cruel and strict to their religious faith that she was unable to attend her father's wake because of the presence of incense and candles! and then they had the nerve to say that she didn't properly love or show respect to the memory of her father!!!
that is one thing that makes this appealing to me - the flexibility of it all. you can have wine, you don't have to have wine. you can have candles, you don't have to have them. it's all very personal and respectful of the individual. something that's severly lacking in other ways.
sgh
