In this type of magic the Elements, Fire, Earth, Air and Water are given their own directional focus to create added power. Wish constant use of these, most will find themselves drawn towards one particular element more than others. Though this is natural, one should try to become capable, if not proficient in the use of all.
Here is a simple ritual, meant to help you focus.
You will need:
1 white candle (fire)
A small bowl of salt or sand (Earth)
A small bowl of water
Incense (such as Bergamot/Cinnamon/Pachouly)
First light the incense and the candle. Focus as you do this that you are making use of Elements of Fire and Air.
Ask for help in the work you are about to do.
Lift the bowl of salt and likewise invoke the powers of the Earth Element.
Do the same with the water.
Call upon the power of these Elements.
Chanting or drumming helps to raise the vibratory level of any incantations. *it is important to keep the words simple at this juncture, the more simple the ryhme or words, the easier it is to maintian during a chant. It becomes more like second nature than effort*
For instance, something I picked up from a song I know would work well
Earth and water
Air and Fire
Mold they power
to my Desire
When you are finished, pour the water onto the Earth. Bury the ashes of the incense and snuff out the candle.
Magical rituals call to each of the four Elements and their respective rulers to protect each cardinal point and its properties. Each of the elements influence our personalities and therefore what we do. They each have their own intrinsic powers an are known for having certain qualities, natures, moods and magical purposes. They each also have positive as well as negative traits. A fuller understanding of the use of the Elements really will make things easier for you, since you can link all of the symbolisms together in your working to allow the power to build up and do the work for you.
There is a fifth Element, and perhaps the most important to some, is that of Spirit. Without the Spirit nothing else happens. In workings, you are both its representative, and its channel. Therefore, in using the other elements, you have a responsibility to act wisely and well.
