Spell components
Just some food for thought . . . Common spell ingredients such as stones, herbs, and candles. I’m curious about the uncommon spell ingredients and their correspondence, like cobwebs, spider webs.
What can a spider web be used for in spell work?
Spider webs which most of us find in our homes from time to time, abandoned by their tiny creators seem to me to be the perfect ingredient for spells that are drawing, or binding. They are also things of unique beauty.
So, I’m wondering what the thoughts of others are on the subject. What do you think Cobwebs would be good for? What other unusual ingredients have you used in spell work, either by design or necessity.

I'll have to do some thinking on that... I'll get back at ya. Though your suggestions work well enough for me, and as intent is a major part of any working, I don't see why they shouldn't work as you want them too. Actually, fingernail clippings are not as uncommon as you may think. Depending on your beliefs, they can be used often in spell work. Most especially as a direct tie to whomever they came from. So....watch out what you do with yours!! bwhaahahahah

Considering intent is such an important part of how magic works for you it is possible to use some rather common ingredients for uncommon purposes. Interestingly enough one of the things I’ve noticed is that if you don’t have a certain rock or crystal handy there is nothing that works better than simply picking up a common river rock and charging it with your intent. I’ve had great luck with that. In fact it was how I did a great many spells before I had the funds to purchase the ‘correct’ stones.
I wonder what you could use office supplies for? Hmm there’s an interesting thought. I mean what could you use a common everyday paper clip for. A magnet? A colored pencil?

Absolutely. Items that best work for you are things that 'speak' to you. Universal Energy [UE] and/or Divinity speaks to each of us differently. Pikcing up a stone that appeals to you should work just as well as going to the store to buy/or ordering the "correct" one.
Office supplies? Hmmmm....

well a paper clip and colored pencils can both be used in conjuncture with poppets and healing
a magnet is an exellent tool for drawing out negativity you could put nails and wood chips in a cauldron to symbolise that which you want to remove you would see the nails as negative and use the magnet to remove the negativity,i would than bond the wood with wax to seal out negative energy....this is sympathetic magic.
the mudane is never so to a clever, well practiced or focused witch.the above is what these things symbolise to me they may not to you.thats the beauty of this.but never disrespect the tried and true teachings of others and never stop learning i learn new things from people of all levels almost every day.

This is true; I will be the first person to admit to simply throwing together items because they work in my mind. Even if they don't work for someone else. That is what makes this so interesting. It is also what makes it so hard to grasp sometimes.

mmm hmmmmmmm....
paperclips - every time i think of paperclip i think of how you unfold them and use them to restart a macintosh computer... so with that association i would imagine a paperclip could be used for change?
what about pencil shavings?

I was thinking a paper clip could be used at the glue that holds a something together. Helping you to keep your thoughts in order. Used in magic to help you get organized. I mean that's what you use them for in the office. They hold together like thoughts and ideas.
As a writer I use them to hold together chapter notes, so they become that to me.
Change? I am not sure I can see that, but I am not the one that has too.

I don't know about empty cartridges for fountain pens. Not sure, although the ink itself has many magical properties, some well known and others more personal. I.e. Using Green ink to bring wealth and good things your way, or using red ink when writing about love or passion.
Pencil shavings are something you would have to break down into parts, I mean pencil shavings are 'gained' through the use of an object which is used to create something. Regardless of what you are doing with the pencil you are creating you write with it, draw with it...direct energy with it lol, I've done that anyway. Pencils work great if you do not have and athame or wand handy.
The shavings from pencils than could be used for creative spells, for beginnings, or drawings. Maybe if it was a regular #2 pencil you could figure out the properties of graphic and wood together. Or if another sort of pencil perhaps a charcoal pencil? hmm
If one were an artist pencil shavings would be useable if perhaps you were stumped to add inspiration?
Just a thought, Jade Fire

I love this line of discussion, really makes you think. I have looked high and low for a spell that includes begonias, violet or white. I cant find any. Last summer I dried some and sent some to a few friends as wel. I decided to try using the white ones to ground up and use in spells for cleansing, for purity, for new beginnings (like a clean slate--starting over, which ibased on the white color) and the violet for romance or spiritual related items due to fact that violet can either be part of the purple family or the pink depending on how you look at it. But im still experimenting with this one. For cleansing and romance it has seemed to work though.
Paper itself, i got a bunch of colored paper from a friend from ehr office and I use it based on its color. If its a spell for money or abundance I use green. One that needs an extra boost I use red for, or romance i use pink etc.
Paperclips, i like the glue that holds things together idea. That seems appropriate.
What about uses for game dice or cards, or personal jewelry?

The colored paper thing works great, especially with an extra boost of the colored inks as well. I've found so far that anything calling for patcholli, the begonias fit well.
I would imagine that the dice or game cards could be used for spells dealing with chances needing to be taken or "leap of faith" spells. Things that you are trusting final outcomes to whatever Deity deems right.
Personal jewlery I'd use as personal connection to whomever it belongs to, assuming it isn't your own. Or if it is your own, why not use the paperclips (as the glue) and the item together, and attach your spell to the jewlery. Use it as a little cantrip - for example attach a spell for energy and luck to a broach, then when you wear that broach, the spell is active. Wear it to a job interview......or whenever you need a little more energy.....

wow. that sounds fantastic.
what about things like fruit peels or rinds?
i'm trying to think of things that normally get thrown away/overlooked. a type of recycling, if you will... any ideas?
