I answered this one in the Kitchen forum as well, but try this.
Thyme 4 drops Lemongrass 8 drops Lavender 4 drops Peppermint 4 drops.
putting this in a carrier oil and use directly on your skin. (2-3 drops of mixture to 2 tblspns of the carrier) or put it in a water/witch hazel base, and use as a spray. Use about 5 drops of the mixture to 1tblspn of witch hazel and 4 tblspns of water. If you've no witch hazel, substitute vodka, but cut it to two tsps instead of tablesgirl thingys.
Place a few of the drops of the mixture on a cotton ball and place on a sill next to where you are sitting to repell as well, or apply directly to strips of thin ribbon or cloth and hang by your windows at night if you sleep with them open like I do.
Lavender, used neat, is best for immediate relief from the itch, and will help to keep the bites from becoming infected. Try putting drops of Lavender or citronella oil on the tops of your socks when you go outside to help repell as well.
