If you're going to cast love spells of varying nature (Which include friendship spells and the like. Does not necessarily mean manipulative spellwork) on anything resembling a "regular" basis, then it can help to have a permanent "Heart Altar" set up somewhere within your home.
It doesn't have to be huge. Find a corner, take a strip of rose covered wallpaper or use a sturdy wrapping paper with a rose print. Tack it from floor to ceiling. This creates a continuity line for your energies to focus on. Your altar should be centered on that paper and then covered with an altar cloth of reds or pinks, or combinations thereof. You should use Red candles on one side of the altar and place a vase of whatever flowers you find most attractive on the other. In place of a pentagram for a centerpiece, try using a heart shaped stone or sigil. It can be natural or man made, its purpose is again focus, thus material need not play a part. Though, if you have the apropriate natural materials available, then by all means use it.
Other objects you may want to place on your altar may be:
Feathers
Silk
Pieces of rose quartz or amethyst *I have used carnellian in mine as I associate that stone as a "heart stone" via color and shape of a particular stone I own. Representational keys can be anything*
Small bottle of red wine/red grape juice for those who don't drink
Chocolate *long associated with love*
Incense holder and incense
Figurines and/or pictures of things and people you love
Using your imagination to decorate your altar with things you associate with love and friendship will make it that much more powerful a place to cast your love spells. Spend some time as often as possible to meditate at your Heart's Altar on love and friendships and what they mean to you.
Bear in mind that unless you already love yourself and have complete confidence in yourself, no love spell is going to work the way you think it will. If you cannot function on your own, and trust in yourself, then attaching yourself to another is not going to help you in the long run. Be sure to take the time (as long as it takes) to asses yourself before casting any love spell. Also remember that it is in extreem bad form to manipulate another directly against their will. Always, without fail, assess all other options before casting the stereotypical "love spell". You might find that the spell isn't really needed.
You can find a more detailed description of the Altar in Yasmine Galorn/Embracing the Moon.
